Zygmunt Zieliński was born in Kościan, western Poland, into a family of musical traditions dating back to composer Michał Kleofas Ogiński. He began to study music with the piano lessons with his mother Izabella Zielińska (nee Ostaszewska – see Ostaszewski). He graduated from the Poznań State High School of Music in the cello class of Prof. Roman Suchecki.

Between 1969-86 he worked as a cellist in the Poznań State Philharmonic Orchestra, and since 1972 as the concertmaster. During his studies, he became a member of Agnieszka Duczmal’s chamber orchestra, now the Amadeus Polish Radio Chamber Orchestra, which was founded then. He has been working in the orchestra as principal cellist and concertmaster ever since.

The musical activities of Zygmunt Zieliński include concerts as a soloist, chamber musician and a member of various other orchestras.

He has given hundreds of vocal-instrumental concerts performing basso continuo parts with The State Philharmonic and the Poznań Nightingales Choir of Prof. Stefan Stuligrosz.

He has taken part in many concert tours all over the world with the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra. He has recorded hundreds of hours of music for Polish National Radio and many broadcasts in Europe and America as well as over a dozen CDs.
